In all my years of soaring I have not really tried F3B. A few times in the mid to late 90s. Recently I went to a F3B clinic, one contest, and the USA Team Selection event.
F3B is extremely labor intensive with setup, winches, line, batteries, etc... It's not a surprise that interest in this sector has waned. That is a sad and unfortune thing because the flying is pretty intense! I wish I could practice speed runs all day!
I was flying a Samba Model Pike Precision 1, which I feel is just about as solid as you could want for an "intro" model.
